Getting My Groove Back

So many events have occurred since the last posting. I am trying to be creative but I consistently go back and fourth with what I want to work on. Sometimes, it’s experimenting with a new method. Other times, I move on to activities that are not related to art dolls. Many artists do not reveal the works that have come out so/so or terrible. Well, I reveal all and what I learned from the process. I don’t claim perfection and I am fine with being flawed. First, I acquired some muslin fabric and will use it to experiment from here on out for doll clothes. Here is my mock up of a basic pair of pant for Ken.

Not a great picture of the rear of Ken’s pants but they do fit him – not too baggy and not tight. I didn’t add the waistband though.
Front portion of Ken’s pants – no details such as pockets or a fly.

I measured Ken in American inches as citizens in the U.S. protested mightily against the metric system. I traced his body from the waist down and all around. Then, I measured him from waist to ankle, crouch to ankle, and around his waist using my phone calculator to divide the pant into four sections. I hand stitched the pieces together as this muslin cloth isn’t usable even for doll clothing because it frays.

I looked at patterns online for real men’s dress pant to see how many parts comprise them and watched a few videos to see someone assemble the pant. Incorporating all the details I saw when be a challenge on such a small scale but I like realism in doll clothing.
